| I follow a blog that is hosting a photo contest. You're supposed to submit a link to a photo that, to you, defines motherhood. I chose this one:
(I'm having problems with my computer skills today, so here is a link.)

To me this defines motherhood in my life. I don't really like how I 'look' in the photo. When was the last time I applied makeup? My hair! Ack! But the journey to getting pregnant and becoming a mother was a long one for me. I didn't know if I'd ever actually get there. And I think you can see, while I'm holding my new baby Asa, that I'm full of joy. I've obtained one of the desires of my heart.

| .... is so so hard. Harder than I even came close to imagining it would be.
Saturday we're having friends over for games and I will be serving snacks I can't eat.
I want a cupcake.
It's also very tempting to tack a snack onto the end of a meal. I finish my meal and I think "Oh, I can also have this snack right now because it's technically not a snack but is part of my lunch." I don't actually fall for this lie and don't eat the snack, but it's really tempting.
When I'm really hungry for a snack I just have a glass of juice or a cup of instant coffee. One of the things I have read over and over about dieting and losing weight is that sometimes our body is thirsty and we mistake this for hunger. So we eat. When we should drink. I've found this to be true in my case. After a glass of juice I'm usually pretty satisfied. Probably much more so than I would have been by a pile of chips.
Lent is long....

| I doubt it. I don't stick to blogs EVER. But I needed somewhere to write about this and felt like a note on facebook was too public. EVERYBODY could read it.
Shawn and I decided to do Lent this year. We've never practiced Lent before. The church I grew up in didn't do it and the church we go to now doesn't either. It's not a Biblical thing, more of a tradition of certain denominations. We decided that maybe this year we could each benefit from giving something up. Anytime we're tempted towards whatever it is we give up, we could pray instead.
Shawn is giving up video games, which is huge for him.
I am giving up eating between meals. This is huge for me. I snack a lot. I have always had a very complicated relationship with food. I either eat too much or don't eat enough. It's been a struggle my whole life. I've never been good at the whole eating three solid meals a day thing.
Today was the first day. I had no idea how hard it would be. I had no idea how addicted to food I am. I started out by eating breakfast. I don't normally do this but figured it would be a good idea to help curb hunger in between meals. Within a couple hours I was already craving a snack. By the time I got to lunch I was going crazy from having not eaten. And I don't even think it was from hunger. Just this mental urge and need to eat. It's almost supper time. I can't even count the number of times I've thought about food in the last 5 hours. Every time I have, I've just prayed that God will give me strength to stick this out. For once, though, I am eating with purpose and intent. I'm not eating out of boredom or compulsion or randomly. I am eating because it is time to eat and because my body needs fuel.
I think I've made a good choice. I think I've really needed these 47 days to come.

| I'm leaving MySpace. But still need to blog. I'll be back on here in awhile.

| 3 of your favorite blogs/websites: * PostSecret * Found Magazine * Etsy 3 favorite books:
- Holy Bible
- Anne of Green Gables - L.M. Montgomery
- Irresistible Revolution - Shane Claiborne
3 favorite stores (real or online): 3 favorite things to do if given the chance: (and)
The rules: 1. Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves. 2. People who are tagged need to write a post on their own blog (about their eight things) and post these rules. 3.
At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people (or less if
everyone else you know has already been tagged!) to get tagged and list
their names. 4. Don't forget to leave them a comment telling them they're tagged, and to read your blog.
My Random Facts/Habits About Myself: 1. I would leave everything behind tomorrow (except for the hubby), including family and friends and work and everything, if I could live in a tiny chateau in a seaside village in France. I would also move just about anywhere, though probably not THE next day, if I felt led to. Any state, almost any country... I'm willing. The idea of living in Wisconsin for my whole life is terrifying.
2. I can cross one eye at a time.
3. As soon as I am able to be a stay-at-home mom, or as soon as I get a really cool job that lets me look however I want, I will permanently have hot pink hair. It will rule.
4. The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of living with friends. Kind of like a commune, only without the pot, strange religious beliefs, and kool-aid. Just sharing a house, expenses, chores, etc with a group of friends. It's the same part of me that is attracted to the whole Amish thing.
5. I love (or loved, since we have no TV) watching shows about surgeries, health conditions, and trauma/er scenarios. I find the whole thing really intriguing. I also like the shows where they reenact near-death experiences and show the 'they-should-have-died' stuff.
6. I strongly dislike when a favorite artist/band becomes popular. I want to shout "I liked them before it was cool!" I also hate when my favorite song on a CD, which I think is an obscure song and doesn't have the right qualities to be a hit single, is released as a single. Grrrrrrrrr. Now everyone will like what I like.
7. I know all the words to "Baby Got Back" and "Gangsta's Paradise."
8. I hate hurting people, so I end up hanging onto friendships for much longer than is necessary out of obligation and guilt.
I tag... Emily, Charlotte, Cyndi, Shawn, Audra, Kristin, Corey, and Aaron.
